Are top-hung windows and skylights the same kind of window?
What is the difference between a top-hung window and a skylight?
Aluminium top-hung windows are not exactly the same as skylights.
An aluminium top-hung window is a specially designed window that has hinges mounted
on the top side of the window and can be opened either inwards or outwards. This design
allows for good ventilation, and because of the way it opens, rainwater is less likely to drift
into the room and is more secure, as the window cannot be opened from the outside.
Upper-hung windows are suitable for areas with a lot of wind and rain, and are also suitable
for use as skylights in sunrooms.
Skylights, on the other hand, are usually windows that are installed at the top of a building,
and their main function is to bring in natural light and provide ventilation. Skylights can be
fixed or openable, and they are usually large and cover a wide area. In some cases, skylights
are also designed to be top-hung, especially if they are high up and difficult to reach by hand,
and may be motorised remote-controlled top-hung windows.
Overall, while aluminium top-hung windows can be used as skylights, not all skylights are
top-hung. The type of window chosen depends on the design needs of the building, climatic
conditions, and personal preference.
